Description:
Pax tells the moving story of Peter, a young boy, and his beloved pet fox, Pax, who have been inseparable since Peter rescued Pax as a kit. When war approaches their home, Peter’s father, a soldier, forces Peter to abandon Pax in the wild before sending Peter to live with his grandfather. Almost immediately, Peter is overcome with guilt and worry for his fox, realizing Pax may not survive on his own.
Determined to make things right, Peter sets out on a difficult journey through forests and war-torn landscapes to find Pax, facing physical injury and emotional challenges along the way. During his travels, Peter is helped by Vola, a reclusive and wise war veteran, who helps him heal and grow. Meanwhile, Pax must learn to survive in the wild, forming bonds with other foxes and discovering his own instincts, all while longing for Peter.
The novel alternates between Peter’s and Pax’s perspectives, offering insight into their deep bond and the ways both must adapt and grow apart. Ultimately, when the two are reunited, Peter recognizes that true love sometimes means letting go, and he encourages Pax to stay with his new fox family in the wild.
